Bemis acquires Brazilian packaging manufacturer, Emplal Participacoes SA

2 December 2015

Wisconsin packaging products company Bemis Co. Inc. said Tuesday that it has purchased the rigid plastic packaging operations of Brazilian manufacturer Emplal Participacoes SA for an undisclosed price.

Emplal, based in Barueri near Sao Paolo, produces plastic packaging used in the food, beverage, confections and hygiene markets. The company has three plants, two of which were included in the sale to Bemis. Bemis owns packaging facilities in Sao Paolo.

Emplal’s plastic packaging operations recorded sales of about $58 million in U.S. dollars in 2014.

“This acquisition supports our growth strategy to expand in markets that fit our strengths and capabilities,” said William Austen, president and CEO of Neenah-based Bemis (NYSE: BMS). “We look forward to integrating these two facilities, which complement our manufacturing capabilities in the region, into our business during 2016.”

The company said the acquisition will not impact earnings in 2015 and will modestly boost profits in 2016. Bemis has about 17,000 employees worldwide and reported 2014 net sales from continuing operations of $4.3 billion.
