Britannia becomes First GOTS Certified Global Packaging Company

11 June 2015

Britannia Garment Packaging is immensely proud to be certified by the Soil Association for its compliance with the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) – becoming the first global packaging company to receive this level of recognition. The certification highlights Britannia's continuing dedication to producing green and responsible woven and printed labels, with its textiles containing a minimum of 70% organic fibres - minimising the impact on the environment and planet.

The Global Organic Textile Standard is recognised as the world’s leading processing standard for textiles made out of organic fibres. The GOTS International Working Group's vision is to see organic textiles enhance people’s lives and the environment. The certificate celebrates its production unit in India, which continues to play a key role in the ever-growing global network.

GOTS raised awareness of the growing prevalence of organic textiles with the first international GOTS conference, which took place on May 22nd. The conference highlighted India’s position as the world’s leader in organic textile processing, which it is thrilled to be actively representing with the recent GOTS certification.

Britannia's certification follows on from a long history of maintaining an environmentally and socially responsible business. From its beginnings in 1976 as a small family run business, to a large international company, its never lost sight of original values and aims. Built on a foundation of honesty and integrity, it is dedicated to offering a transparent service, where raw products are ethically and organically sourced.

In the fashion industry, where ‘fast-fashion’ is changing the foundations of the supply chain – it is determined to continue its momentum as a pioneering organic packaging supplier.

Looking to the future, Paul Brownhill, Group Chief Executive at Britannia, says: “I’m excited by the type of company Britannia is today: an innovative, respected global business with the ability to lead where others follow. Our mission is to further strengthen our position as a trusted partner to retailers and brand owners as the garment industry continues to evolve."
