Constantia Flexibles, Coca-Cola European Partners develop new recyclable label

19 December 2016

Constantia Flexibles and Coca-Cola European Partners (CCEP) have developed a pressure sensitive label for vapour distilled spring water, GLACÉAU Smartwater Sparkling.

The new label was designed for CCEP’s new vapour distilled spring water by using inks with the right opacity to see the design from front of the bottle and back of the label, helping to view through the water.

Constantia has printed the new pressure sensitive label by using Avery Dennison’s recyclable CleanFlake material.

The same material is used on the original GLACÉAU Smartwater, allowing to retain and use labels to make new products.

CleanFlake material is said to help GLACÉAU Smartwater business to recycle around 70t of waste each year, in addition to reducing between 80t to 100t of CO2 per year.

According to Constantia Flexibles, the new label fits with the brand’s values and allows to see message through the bottle.

CCEP Morpeth operations director Jane Buckley said: “With around half of the total carbon footprint of our products coming from packaging, we are determined to set the standard for sustainability in this area, and we were one of the first UK businesses to sign all three of the Courtauld Committee pledges.

“We are very excited to be working with some of the biggest organisations in the packaging and recycling spheres who share our commitment to support the circular economy.”
