9 March 2016

Klöckner Pentaplast, a provider of packaging, printing, and specialty solutions for markets including pharmaceutical, medical device, food and beverage, has introduced new pet-based technology, clikPET, for yogurt packaging.

Designed to increase shelf-life up to 10 days, the clikPET features polystyrene functionality, gas and water vapor barrier properties to offer transport shock-resistance with the ability to bend and click.

Klöckner Pentaplast EMEA and Asia group director development packaging & specialties Rainer Schlicht said: "We are proud of having developed a product that relies on Klöckner Pentaplast's well-proven technologies and makes it easy to serve consumer preferences such as the "bend and click" opportunity for more convenience at the same time."

"Allowing a longer self-life as well as avoiding breaking cups during distribution the new innovation contributes to Klöckner Pentaplast's support of the initiative SAVE FOOD."

Besides avoiding cup breakage during distribution, clikPET helps in cutting down costs.

Capable of being processed on usual FFS lines without investments, the clikPET allows customers to develop packaging design according to the brand's and product's benefits.

Klöckner Pentaplast EMEA and Asia packaging and specialties marketing director Stuart Ball said: "clikPET offers new possibilities for packaging and product innovation in the yogurt market.

"The PET based alternative to polystyrene offers opportunities to drive reduced total cost of ownership (TCO) whilst changing consumer perception with brand differentiation in a competitive environment."

The firm plans to introduce the new PET-based technology at Propak Africa 2016 which is scheduled to be held from 15-18 March in Johannesburg, South Africa.
