Sonoco to expand Polish packaging plant

U.S.-based Sonoco Products Co. is aiming to expand the output capacity of its production facility in Kutno, in Poland’s central part. The company will invest about 97 million zloty ($24 million) at the factory and increase its workforce by about 40 new employees, reports local newspaper Dziennik ?ódzki.

As part of its manufacturing project, Sonoco will install two new production lines at the Polish plant, the report said.

The investment will be carried out by the firm’s local subsidiary, Sonoco Poland Packaging Services sp. z o.o. The production facility is located in the ?ódz special economic zone which will provide the firm with preferential tax treatment for its investment. The country’s special economic zones are to remain operational until 2026.

As part of its ongoing expansion in Poland, in late 2015, Sonoco leased around 26,500 square meters of logistics space at the Panattoni Park Stryków II, close to ?ód?.

The Hartsville, S.C., company's packaging range comprises round and shaped rigid containers and trays made of both composite and thermoformed plastic, blow-molded plastic bottles and jars, extruded and injection molded plastic products.

The Polish site opened in 2004.
