Weedon Corrugated Products acquires High-speed Flatbed Die-cutter

21 May 2015

Weedon Corrugated Products, one of the country’s leading independent manufacturers of corrugated packaging, has invested in a Bobst high-speed flatbed die-cutter. The new die-cutter cuts and creases to a very high quality to meet the growing demand from customers requiring Retail Ready Packaging (RRP) that can be machine-erected. With high operational speed, the machine will increase the company’s capacity for die-cut corrugated packaging by over four times.

The Weedon Group already offers flatbed die-cutting at its Weedon PSC factory in Hednesford, Staffordshire. When installed at the end of April at Weedon Corrugated Products in Audenshaw, Manchester, the new machine will enable the Group to organise its logistics more efficiently, producing packaging nearer to its customers in the North West. With two plants producing flatbed work, they will also be better placed to accommodate surges in demand.

The acquisition of this die-cutter follows recent investment in a state-of-the-art corrugator at Weedon Corrugated Products, and represents the latest step in the Weedon Group’s strategy for growth – its target for Weedon Corrugated Products is to double turnover within five years.

John Weedon, Managing Director of Weedon Corrugated Products, commented:

“The installation of this new Bobst die-cutter is part of our ongoing investment programme as we seek to upgrade and re-equip Weedon Corrugated Products to accommodate recent growth and to satisfy future demand.

“More and more of our customers are asking for machine-erectable boxes, particularly in the food industry. The new machine will enable us to deliver very much faster than before, and to the high quality required.”
