Exal Corporation Names Michael Mapes as Chief Executive Officer

Exal Corporation, the world's largest manufacturer of impact extruded aluminum containers, announced that Michael Mapes has been named Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the organization effective January 19th.

"Michael Mapes is an accomplished executive with demonstrated strategic leadership in the packaging sector and a successful track record of driving business growth and profitability on a global scale. We're delighted that a leader of such first-rate caliber will be taking the reins at Exal," said Asher Lepkin, Board Member and Interim CEO of Exal.

"We are thankful for Asher's strong leadership over the past eight months while we conducted an in-depth search to find a permanent CEO. He's done much during this time to position the company for success going forward. We are also delighted that he will continue in his position of Executive Chairman and work with Michael to ensure a smooth transition," said Russell Hammond, Exal board member. "We believe Michael is the ideal person to lead Exal. He brings with him a great mix of leadership, strategic thinking, drive, experience and passion for serving customers," continued Mr. Hammond.

Mr. Mapes brings significant packaging experience to his new role at Exal. While at Greif, Mr. Mapes spent over 10 years in various leadership roles, most recently, as VP of Global Strategy and previously as Division President & CEO Greif Flexibles, responsible for forming and growing Greif's flexible packaging business. Throughout his career, he has led rigid, paper, and flexible packaging businesses.  Prior to joining Greif, Mr. Mapes worked as a consultant for McKinsey & Company.  Previously he worked at one of Bain Capital's portfolio companies on an operational and financial restructuring.
