Project Overview

Coveris has announced a €5 million investment at its St Neots packaging facility in Cambridgeshire, England, to significantly expand the production of recyclable food-to-go packaging solutions. The project will increase manufacturing capacity, introduce advanced automation and robotics, improve resource efficiency, and support the company’s sustainability strategy focused on waste reduction and circular packaging systems.

Project Description

Introduction:

Coveris has today revealed a major investment project at its St Neots packaging facility in Cambridgeshire. This project will allow the site to boost the production capacity of its recyclable food-to-go packaging products.

Features:

The production area will expand from 1,000 square metres to 3,158 square metres by utilising existing site spaces. The new facility will feature robotics, a lean design, improved workflow, enhanced raw material optimisation, and a cutting-edge flexo press. Additionally, it has the capacity for future machine installations, ensuring it is well-prepared for continued growth in the sector.

This new factory concept will significantly increase production capacity and is essential to Coveris’ sustainable vision of “No Waste.” This vision focuses on three key areas: operations, product, and packaging waste reduction. The site produces around 700 million recyclable Freshlife® engineered food-to-go packs annually. The investment will lead to reduced waste during set-up and operations, with 100% automated inspection. New advanced air system installations will promote cleaner operations, decrease energy use, and significantly lower electricity consumption.

With substantial investments in plastic and paper recycling through the ReCover operations, the new systems at the St Neots site will enhance waste segregation, allowing for the recovery of approximately 25% of waste as virgin board for complete circular reuse in cartonboard products.
