Project Overview

Mondi has announced a €200 million investment to convert an existing paper machine at its Duino mill in Italy into a state-of-the-art recycled containerboard production facility. The project is designed to strengthen Mondi’s sustainable packaging portfolio by increasing the production of high-quality recycled containerboard while supporting local economic development, supply chain resilience, and environmental sustainability objectives.

Project Description

Introduction:

Mondi, a global leader in sustainable packaging and paper, is investing €200 million in a high-quality recycled containerboard machine with an annual capacity of approximately 420,000 tonnes at its Duino mill in Italy.

Features:

The facility’s existing paper machine will be converted into a high-quality recycled containerboard machine, creating job opportunities for both current and potential employees. This transformation will also foster partnerships with local stakeholders and contribute to the region’s overall economic development.

The new machine is expected to start up in 2025. Once fully operational, it will produce 420,000 tonnes of recycled containerboard for sustainable packaging solutions, becoming Mondi’s widest recycled paper machine at 8.5 meters. Whenever possible, the mill will source materials locally, contributing to the local economy, reducing greenhouse gas emissions through shorter transport distances, and strengthening supply chain resilience.
