Market leading die-cut lid manufacturer Clondalkin Flexible Packaging Bury (formerly Chadwicks) has invested in a new heat seal machine to improve in-house product testing.

In order to provide the best level of quality and product reliability to customers, Clondalkin Flexible Packaging Bury has an ongoing capital expenditure strategy to improve internal testing equipment.

The latest investment in a new heat seal machine provides in-house capabilities to seal a wider range of pot sizes, as well as multipacks of four and six pack containers.

An important feature of multipacks is that consumers can break one pot of yoghurt without pulling off or damaging other lids, thus retaining product integrity and freshness.  

In order to test performance it’s critical to replicate the same conditions that the consumer has once they have bought the product. The new machine provides the ability to test sealed pots in the same way a consumer would handle them.

Manufacturing Manager, Simon Timperley said: “Multipack lids are perforated very precisely so that the group of lids remain sealed during the filling process but break easily for consumers.  

“This means that we test individual products and multipacks by sealing them, refrigerating them and using them in the same ways that consumers do at home.  Adopting this approach allows us to test different materials, work with perforation configurations and refine our production techniques accordingly to provide the best performing lids on the market.”
