Dow Partners with Industry Leaders for Recyclable Packaging

8 December 2015

The Dow Chemical Company’s DOW Packaging and Specialty Plastics business recently entered into a collaboration with Sustainable Packaging Coalition (“SPC”) and Accredo Packaging for making Seventh Generation’s first recyclable Dishwasher Pods packaging. This packaging features SPC’s How2Recycle label.

Dow designed the resins for the recyclable polyethylene stand-up pouch that imparts stiffness, toughness and sealability to the package. Accredo Packaging transforms this material into pouches and utilizes its topnotch printing capabilities to give them a noticeable appearance on store shelves.

This collaboration comes as a solution for customers who demanded a recyclable package for Dishwasher Pods. Moreover, the new Dishwasher Pods packaging has the How2Recycle “Store Drop-Off” label, which motivates customers to carry flexible plastic bags, films and wraps to local grocery or retail stores for recycling. Further, the pouches can be recycled at more than 18,000 store drop-off locations throughout North America.

Being a founding member of the SPC, Dow intends to offer sustainable packaging and recycling-related knowledge to customers through this collaboration. Also, according to Greg Jozwiak, North America commercial vice president for Dow Packaging and Specialty Plastics, the collaboration is on track to achieve the environmental vision for packaging.

Shares of Dow fell 2.1% to close at $52.29 on Dec 2.

Dow currently carries a Zacks Rank #2 (Buy).

Other favorably ranked companies in the diversified chemical space include Innospec Inc. IOSP, Celanese Corporation CE and Cytec Industries Inc. CYT. While Innospec and Celanese sport a Zacks Rank #1 (Strong Buy), Cytec carries a Zacks Rank #2.
