Dow’s PacXpert™ Packaging Technology Wins Silver 2015 Edison Award for Food Packaging

28 April 2015

PacXpert™ Packaging Technology from The Dow Chemical Company, is once again recognized as a leading flexible packaging innovation that has advanced the packaging industry. The revolutionary alternative to rigid packaging received its eighth industry award for its leading performance, sustainability and cost-savings advantages by winning Silver at the 2015 Edison Awards' gala in New York City.

“We are honored to add The Edison Award to PacXpert Technology’s growing list of industry accolades,” said Diego Donoso, president, Dow Packaging and Specialty Plastics. “Whether it’s the functionality, aesthetics or improved sustainability benefits, the innovative design highlights Dow’s promise to provide customers with exceptional packaging solutions that gain consumer acceptance."

An innovative alternative to traditional rigid packaging, PacXpert Technology’s flexible, lightweight design enables multiple sustainability benefits. The technology reduces content waste by allowing consumers to achieve a better product yield and requires less overall raw material during the manufacturing process when compared to rigid packaging alternatives. Empty packages can ship flat, increasing shipping and warehouse efficiency, and possibly reducing carbon dioxide emissions. Emptied containers also take up less receptacle space when discarded.

PacXpert Technology is available in a range of sizes and can house edible and non-edible items. The package offers a variety of customizable options like fitment closures and integrated ergonomic dual handles for precision pouring, reclosability and convenient carrying. PacXpert Technology also adds instant shelf appeal, standing upright on store shelves, and has four printable sides that maximize branding opportunities.

Dow received the Silver for PacXpert™ Technology in the “food packaging and beverage” category and was selected by a panel of more than 3,000 executives and academics for The Edison Award based on four key criteria – concept, value, delivery and impact. Notably, Dow also received four additional wins for BETAMATE™, SOLDERON™ BP TS 6000 Tin-Silver, POLYOX™ Water-Soluble Polymers and AFFINISOL™ HPMC HME at the 2015 Edison Awards.
