UK-based Falkland Press has invested in Heidelberger’s Speedmaster XL 106 six-color press, in a bid to enhance its digitized production workflows.

The company invested about €3.5m in new machines to improve digitized production workflows in its business areas, including commercial and packaging printing, as well as web-to-print shop.

The drupa generation Speedmaster XL 106 six-color press includes coating unit, allowing to operate using conventional, as well as UV or LE UV inks and coatings.

Speedmaster press can be used in traditional commercial or packaging printing, in addition to label printing or web-to-print applications.

Falkland is currently using four Stahlfolder machines in its production operations.

For effective materials handling, the firm has enhanced postpress with two joggers, while Polar cutting machines with two stack lifters. It has also deployed fully automatic Stahlfolder TH 82 folding machine.

The machines allow Falkland Press to print on coated and uncoated substrates in a wide range of grammages, as well as on plastics and foils.

Falkland Press managing director Jon Lancaster said: “We chose the Speedmaster XL 106 as, with this press, we can push further ahead with digitized print production. We also want to maximize the substrates and the range of jobs we can handle.

“The press copes easily with packaging printing jobs, such as folding cartons for cosmetics, pharmaceuticals and food, which amount to 20 percent of our sales.

“Furthermore, we can also complete commercial printing jobs, such as books, flyers, brochures and business stationery, as well as very short runs for our Printed Easy web-to-print shop, both of which make up 40 percent of our sales.”

Based in Letchworth of England, Falkland Press provides offset and digital printing services to its customers.
