Flexible packaging firm Uflex installs engraving line at Noida facility, India
20 July 2016
Flexible packaging company Uflex, in partnership with Japan’s Think Lab, has launched a fully automatic robotic laser engraving line at a facility in Noida, India, to manufacture rotogravure cylinders.
Designed to offer printing consistency, the robotic laser engraving line will reduce the cumbersome process of manufacturing rotogravure printing cylinders to a single operator job.
Uflex chairman and managing director Ashok Chaturvedi said: “For this ambitious project we decided to partner with M/s Think Lab, Japan because of their unmatched technological finesse in gravure printing technology which is globally acclaimed.
“We are getting online real time service support and assistance from Think Lab which is now completely dovetailed with our operations and ensures practically zero downtime.”
Capable of being used by single operator, the robotic laser engraving line can produce additional 60 cylinders per day. Uflex manufactures over 200 cylinders per day using the conventional process.
It is spread in approximately 1/10th of the entire cylinder manufacturing shop floor area at Noida.
In addition to providing consistency in printing for flexible packaging, the new line reduces ink consumption during printing operation as compared to conventional electromechanical engraving.
Requiring very less production space and power, the laser line has high definition image re-production capability of 6,400 DPI.
Recently, Uflex has expanded its partnership with WaveFront Technology to manufacture Fresnel lens packaging films in Europe.
Uflex has packaging facilities at various locations in India with a capacity of around 100,000t per annum.
