Graphic Packaging will lay off 108 employees in Renton, Washington
9 October 2015
Graphic Packaging International is closing its Renton location and laying off the 108 employees there.
The closure will happen in phases, with full closure by the second quarter of next year, said Sue Appleyard, spokeswoman for the Atlanta-based consumer goods packaging company.
Some national companies that are longterm customers of Graphic Packaging had wanted to ship from different facilities, leaving the Renton plant with not enough business, Appleyard said.
The employee layoffs are scheduled to start Dec. 3, according to Washington’s Employment Security Department.
Graphic Packaging is trying to find positions for those employees who want to stay in the Pacific Northwest at either the company’s Vancouver, Wash., or Portland locations, Appleyard said. Employees are also eligible to apply for jobs at the company’s other locations around the country.
