Krones has announced the purchase of German labelling machinery maker Gernep Group in order to strengthen its activities in the food, cosmetics and pharmaceuticals markets.

Specialising in customised machines, which it builds in a factory in Barbing, Germany, Gernep has more than 95 employees and will continue to operate autonomously within the existing management and sales structures.

A manufacturer of machines and complete lines for processing, filling and packaging applications, Krones exports more than 90 per cent of its products and employs more than 12,000 staff worldwide.

Volker Kronseder, Chairman of the Executive Board of Krones, recently decided not to renew his contract, which expires on 31 December 2015. His replacement will be Christoph Klenk, who is currently the executive board member responsible for finance.

The transaction is subject to approval by antitrust authorities.
