25 January 2018

Michelman has opened a new packaging incubator at its facilities in central Mumbai, located in the Indian state of Maharashtra.

The Michelman Innovation Centre for Coatings (MICC) will help all members of the packaging value chain to take part in the design and production of sustainable packaging solutions.

It features Kroenert pilot coater laminator, which enables packaging manufacturers to test new concepts without halting their production lines.

The centre houses advanced equipment for barrier testing, lamination and improving both the physical and chemical properties of coatings.

The centre will allow brand owners, film producers, converters and universities to collaborate with Michelman’s technical and market experts for the research and development of sustainable packaging solutions.

Michelman said the investment will help to better develop and expand customer base in India and the surrounding region.

Michelman India country manager and director Shailesh Nema said: “This centre will allow customers to efficiently evaluate new technologies, prototype innovative packaging structures, test improved coating formulations, and quickly commercialize superior packaging.

“Michelman is committed to training industry’s next generation of packaging engineers. This facility is available for use by all members of the packaging value chain for this purpose.”

Michelmam provides solutions for the customers in the coatings, printing and packaging, and industrial manufacturing markets.

The company produces barrier and functional coatings, packaging and paper products, labels, and commercially printed materials. It has production facilities in North America, Europe and Asia.

In addition, the firm produces surface additives and polymeric binders for use in applications, including wood and floor care products, metal and industrial coatings, paints, varnishes, inks, fibers and composites.
