Pasupati Acrylon plans to enter flexible packaging market

24 May 2016

Pasupati Acrylon, one of the leading manufacturers of acrylic fibre in the country, is planning to foray into flexible packaging market. For this, the company will set up a 5000 tonne per annum (TPA) integrated cast polypropylene (CPP) film plant.

“The board approved a proposal to diversify into a flexible packaging business by installing a 5000 TPA integrated cast polypropylene (CPP) film plant,” said Pasupati Acrylon in a BSE filing today.

Depending upon production method, properties and applications, polypropylene (PP) film can divided into three types - cast polypropylene film (CPP), inflation PP (IPP) and biaxially oriented PP (BoPP) film. While awareness of cast polypropylene (CPP) tends to be overshadowed by more popular BOPP, the acceptance for CPP as the material of choice is steadily gaining importance in both traditional flexible packaging as well as non-packaging applications.

At present, Pasupati Acrylon supplies its acrylic fibre under the brand name Acrylon, which is used in varying products such as sweaters, apparels, blankets, carpets and upholstery. The company has a manufacturing capacity of 42,000 TPA of acrylic fibre/tow/tops - both in grey as well as dyed (Gel dyed) – at its Thakurdwara facility in Moradabad (Uttar Pradesh).
