SML unveils new intelligent packaging technologies for RFID retail supply chain management

10 October 2016

SML Group has unveiled new intelligent packaging technologies for RFID retail supply chain management to enhance inventory management and strengthen brand security.

With the new smart packaging designs, the company seeks to overcome the RF sensitivity issues common in the cosmetics and fragrances market.

Smart RFID packaging offers brand owners with new applications and opportunities to cover the Internet of Things (IoT).

The company provides a full-service RFID solution, including retail RFID tags and Clarity 3.X.

Clarity 3.X is a cloud-based RFID mobile data collection solution, which will help to apply supply chain applications from the factory to the store.

SML said the technology needs to adapt in order to address the interference issues that RFID tags might have with common packaging material.

The firm will work with brand owners to solve these issues by examining the possible solutions and identifying the steps required to realize them.

SML Group senior vice president and chief technology officer Dean Frew said: “Our RFID friendly packaging solutions are built upon our years of experience in retail packaging and expertise in RFID technology to help our customers solve their business challenges.

“Retailers have shared with us that the fragrance and cosmetics categories are some of the most poorly managed with the highest shrink within their stores.

“We provided brand owners the ability to incorporate RFID without compromising the branding of their products while improving their bottom-line.”

With operations in around 30 countries, SML provides a range of RFID-enabled labels, tags, stickers and inlays to its customers.
