Medtec Europe is Europe's largest trade exhibition for medical equipment design and technology. Some 800 international exhibitors are expected to attend the event this year from 21 to 23 April at the Stuttgart exhibition grounds.

Packaging for medical products plays an important role, and there are theme-based pavilions for medical packaging and medical plastics technology. Südpack Medica AG will be appearing at Medtec Europe once again this year. The subsidiary of Südpack Verpackungen GmbH & Co. KG will be showcasing the company's on-site cleanroom production and customized sterile packaging solutions (Hall 7, Stand F30).

Packaging for medical and pharmaceutical products is subject to a variety of requirements to ensure safety and shelf life over a specific period of time. As a sterile barrier system, they must prevent the entry of microorganisms and keep products aseptic until they are used. This is why controlled, certified cleanliness is mandatory along the entire value chain for sterile medical packaging products. Clean room production at the company's site in Coulmer, France, is one of the themes presented at the company's trade show stand (Stand F30). Coulmer is where Südpack Medica manufactures and prints bags in class 100.000/ISO 8 cleanrooms according to 14 644-1, and blister lids and storage containers in class 10.000/ISO 7 cleanrooms according to 14 644-1 standards. The site is also certified according to ISO 9001:2008 and ISO NF EN 13 485 (2003). Earlier this year, the site was certified according to ISO 15378. This is in line with state-of-the-art technology thanks to a comprehensive Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) approach and compliance with all quality requirements. Continuous, stringent monitoring inside and outside the cleanrooms ensures the quality of all products and raw materials.

Customized packaging, cutting-edge standards
Südpack Medica AG specializes in multilayer plastic films and bags at production sites in Coulmer and Ochsenhausen, Germany, as well as at corporate headquarters in Baar, Switzerland. The company develops and produces a wide variety of packaging solutions for medical product manufacturers – from blister lids to peelable 3-side sealed pouches and tubular bags, printed and unprinted lids for blister trays, and roll material for thermoforming applications. Medtec Europe visitors can see a selection of medical films and sterile packaging products at the film specialists' exhibition stand. "We offer an extensive portfolio of standard products," says Südpack Medica General Manager Ingo Schnellenbach. "We also guarantee consistent quality and cutting-edge safety standards for customized packaging solutions produced in small, medium or large quantities."

Focus on specific requirements
Südpack Medica AG packaging engineers work in close cooperation with customers to determine which criteria the packaging has to meet. The packaging shape, size and material is precisely defined and tailored to the customer's specific requirements. For manufacturing, the company uses standard plastic materials along with various types of medical paper and Tyvek®, a special non-woven, high-density polyethylene coated or uncoated. At the Technikum, the company's in-house research and development center in Ochsenhausen, Germany, customers can inspect new packaging solutions in the early stages to determine whether they meet defined specifications.
