Toray Plastics (America) unveils new packaging innovations

18 July 2018

Toray Plastics (America) is set to present new packaging films at this year’s Pack Expo International event in Chicago, US.

At the event, which will take place between 14 and 17 October, Toray Plastics will exhibit thin and ultra-thin film solutions and films made with bio-based materials, easy-open packaging and lidding, premium feel outer webs and solutions for digital printing and e-commerce applications.

Torayfan CB3 portfolio, which is a new generation of transparent high-barrier BOPP films, will be exhibited at the event.

Available in 70 and 80 gauges in sealable and non-sealable versions, the new PVdC-free films provide better barrier-durability protection for nuts, seeds, snacks, cookies, dried fruit, and confections.

Suitable for snack food packaging applications, the new Torayfan white pigmented BOPP films are metallized on one side in sealable and non-sealable versions. These films are available in different barrier levels and heat-seal strengths.

Toray’s white films are said to aggregate the pigment, sealant and barrier in one web, allowing to produce standard two-ply lamination.

The new Lumirror high-barrier PET films have been developed to offer extended shelf life.

Toray’s new MK6HB metallized film provides better oxygen and moisture-barrier protection, while PA1HB is a clear-barrier film that delivers enhanced oxygen barrier.

In addition, the company will showcase new Over the Mountain high-barrier BOPP films.

The films are developed by using ntegrated sealant technology, improved hermeticity (air tightness), and the seal-strength to tolerate the air pressure changes that occur when products are transported in changing altitudes.

These films can be used by the regional manufacturer for national distribution and e-commerce applications.

Torayfan division associate product manager Tammy Williamson said: “People’s desire for fresh and ‘clean’ foods, product visibility, sturdy, ‘on-the-go’ packaging, portion-control, and e-commerce convenience, along with their expectation that a company demonstrate a verifiable commitment to sustainability is clear.

“Toray has a legacy as a leader in film technology innovation, including bio-based films, and sustainable business practices, and we are very excited to share our knowledge with Pack Expo attendees this fall.”
