UK’s Ultimate Packaging purchases Bobst 20SIX CS CI flexo press

4 August 2018

UK-based flexible packaging manufacturer Ultimate Packaging has purchased a fourth Bobst 20SIX CS CI flexo press to boost its flexo printing business.

Commissioned in June 2018 at an undisclosed production facility, the new Bobst flexo press features 8-colour with a downstream unit for film coating.

With a web width of 1300mm and a speed of 500m/min, the press has special features designed to meet Ultimate Packaging’s stringent requirements in terms of high quality output and press efficient operation.

Ultimate Packaging, which currently operates four 20SIX flexo presses at its facilities, has purchased the fourth 20SIX press to continue to be responsive to their customers with flexible lead times, and fill the gap between short and long print runs.

Ultimate Packaging operations director Jon McCarthy said: “We bought our first 20SIX in 2012 after it was presented at drupa that same year to boost our short run capability.

“With unique features like the smartGPSTM offline register and pressure setting we achieved major improvements in start-up waste and turnaround time and could serve our customers better with smaller orders than before.”

The new 20SIX is a top of the series CS configuration and is designed to deliver speed and consistency across a huge variety of substrates and types of application.

McCarthy added: “Just as we are led by the needs of our customers and strive to deliver them solutions to the criticalities and challenges they face with their packaging, Bobst has proved a responsive approach to work with us to deliver the equipment that enables us to technically find a way to meet such challenges.”

Ultimate is engaged in developing innovative packaging solutions to increase shelf-life, convenience, sustainability, among others.

Fully accredited to ISO and BRC Food Packaging Standard, Ultimate Packaging supplies 90% of its products to the food industry with 70% falling into the fresh produce sector.

Using print and production equipment, the firm produces a range of packaging formats including lidding films, flowrap, VFFS and pouches.
