30 August 2023

Amcor, a prominent global leader in the development and manufacture of sustainable packaging solutions, has introduced its curbside-recyclable packaging named AmFiberTM Performance Paper to the North American market. This innovative addition is part of the broader AmFiber portfolio. The performance paper has received prequalification from How2Recycle®, a notable certification body, indicating its compliance with repulpability standards for curbside recycling. This advancement empowers brands to offer consumers packaging with enhanced sustainability in terms of end-of-life disposal.

Leveraging advanced technologies, paper-based packaging solutions like AmFiber Performance Paper strike a balance between providing appropriate barriers, shelf-life preservation, and machine compatibility to meet the specific requirements of brands and products. Consumers often favor paper-based packaging due to its compatibility with widespread curbside paper collection and recycling practices. Additionally, on store shelves, paper-based solutions align with consumer preferences for a natural look and tactile feel.

Brian Carvill, Vice President of Research and Development at Amcor Flexibles North America, stated, "Brands now have an expanded array of packaging choices that appeal to consumers, align with sustainability goals, and simultaneously deliver the operational performance they demand. The introduction of Amcor Performance Paper, part of the AmFiber portfolio, along with our dedicated research and development team, facilitates a seamless and advantageous shift from plastic to paper."

AmFiber Performance Paper is a laminated high-barrier paper with recyclability in most paper recycling waste streams. It has received the "widely recyclable" prequalification from How2Recycle®. It outperforms existing coated papers by offering improved barriers and heightened packer efficiency. Crucially, it is also PVdC-free, contributing to enhanced environmental credentials. Ilya Syshchikov, Vice President of Global Product Management at AmFiber, remarked, "The independent validation reinforces the ease of recycling packaging made with AmFiber Performance Paper through curbside paper recycling."

The Amcor product portfolio encompasses options for various items such as confectionery, bars, cookies, cereals, dry beverages, and dry mixes. The formats are suitable for cold-seal flow wrap and three-side seal sachets. Notably, AmFiber Performance Paper can be processed on existing flexible packaging equipment, achieving machine speeds comparable to plastic-based packaging.

Amcor's broader AmFiber portfolio, which includes paper-based packaging, caters to multiple markets, spanning dairy, produce, meat, poultry, seafood, ready meals, lawn and garden, and personal care.
