Anheuser-Busch Announces $22.5M Investment in Houston Brewery

30 August 2023

Anheuser-Busch has unveiled a significant $22.5 million investment plan for its Houston brewery, aimed at upgrading internal systems to enhance workplace safety and streamline brewery operations. With a longstanding tradition of being a committed community partner, Anheuser-Busch is underlining its dedication to delivering top-quality beverages to consumers while fostering economic growth across the nation.

Brendan Whitworth, CEO of Anheuser-Busch, commented, "Our core identity involves investing in our workforce and the communities we serve to drive economic prosperity. This $22 million investment not only improves the work environment for our frontline employees but also acts as a catalyst for economic development in Houston and its neighboring regions. Our ongoing commitment to our employees and communities is exemplified through continued investments in our facilities nationwide."

Having been an integral part of the Houston community for nearly six decades, Anheuser-Busch consistently reaffirms its commitment through ongoing investments like this recent one. In the past year, the brewery introduced water reuse technology, enabling the recovery of over 100 million gallons of water annually. Building on this achievement, the installation of an advanced cooling system will aid the brewery in its mission to craft exceptional beer for consumers across the nation.

Ryan Hudgins, General Manager of Anheuser-Busch Houston Brewery, highlighted the benefits of the cooling system upgrade, stating, "Upgrading our cooling system positions us at the forefront of brewery safety and operational efficiency standards. This transition not only positively impacts our employees but also conserves resources for the local Houston community."

The $22.5 million investment encompasses a comprehensive upgrade of the cooling system, enhancing workplace safety while reducing annual electricity consumption by a notable 2,180,000 kWh. The existing cooling system will be completely replaced and reconfigured for enhanced functionality, alongside the addition of a standalone structure to house the evaporative condensers. The upgraded cooling system is projected to be operational by the fourth quarter of 2023.

This investment initiative aligns with Anheuser-Busch's successful capital expenditure program, which saw a $1 billion investment over two years in 2021 to stimulate the country's recovery following the pandemic and foster economic prosperity within the communities it operates. With a presence in over 120 facilities across the United States, including flagship breweries, agricultural sites, and craft partner breweries, Anheuser-Busch maintains its impact on 24 states. In Texas alone, the company's facilities employ over 1,000 individuals, with nearly 6,000 connected to the broader Anheuser-Busch distributor network. Anheuser-Busch's activities in Texas contribute over $1.4 billion in capital investments, making a substantial contribution to the state's economic advancement.
