Ardagh Group's California facility awarded its eighth consecutive ENERGY STAR® building certification

22 September 2023

For the eighth consecutive year, Ardagh Group's distribution center located in Fairfield, California, has received the prestigious ENERGY STAR® building certification from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). This facility primarily caters to Ardagh's packaging distribution needs on the West Coast, with a special focus on serving the wine industry.

Alex Winters, Chief Sustainability Officer at Ardagh Glass Packaging, emphasized the company's dedication to environmental responsibility, extending beyond the production of infinitely recyclable glass containers. Ardagh Group is committed to conserving energy and minimizing its environmental footprint as part of its broader commitment to the communities in which it operates.

ENERGY STAR certification is a testament to a facility's exceptional energy efficiency. Certified buildings and plants are recognized for performing among the top 25 percent nationwide in terms of energy use, considering factors such as occupancy, operating hours, and other key metrics. Notably, ENERGY STAR is the sole energy efficiency certification in the United States based on verified energy performance.

Cindy Jacobs, Chief of the ENERGY STAR Commercial & Industrial Branch, highlighted the significance of improving the energy performance of buildings in reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The EPA commended manufacturers like Ardagh for their ongoing commitment to energy efficiency, as demonstrated by their consistent attainment of ENERGY STAR certifications.

Ardagh's Fairfield facility achieved its improved energy performance through measures such as the installation of energy-efficient lighting fixtures and the incorporation of occupancy sensors, maximizing efficiency while reducing energy consumption.

ENERGY STAR-certified facilities, on average, consume 35 percent less energy, emit 35 percent fewer greenhouse gas emissions, and are more cost-effective to operate than their counterparts. Importantly, these benefits are achieved without compromising performance or occupant comfort. For additional information, please visit the ENERGY STAR website.

This accomplishment follows Ardagh's announcement in July 2023 that its glass manufacturing facility in Houston had also received an ENERGY STAR plant certification, further underscoring the company's commitment to sustainable and energy-efficient operations.
