Georgia-Pacific's Packaging & Cellulose Business Implements Infor CloudSuite Solution to Transform Processes & Provide Enhanced Customer Experience

19 September 2023

Infor®, the industry-leading cloud company, has announced the successful implementation of its CloudSuite solution, powered by the core M3 ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) system, at Georgia-Pacific's Packaging & Cellulose business. This implementation marks a significant transformation of business processes and a substantial enhancement to the customer experience.

In the initial phase of the rollout, Infor's multi-tenant cloud solution, which includes Supply Chain Planning, Enterprise Performance Management (EPM), Factory Track, and Yard Management, serves as the foundational technology platform for the mill-based operations. Notably, this deployment, covering four large pulp mills operating 24/7 within the Cellulose business, was executed seamlessly without causing disruptions to scheduled production. It also extended to international offices in Switzerland, Uruguay, and China, as well as the headquarters office in Atlanta, Ga., which collectively serves customers across more than 90 countries and collaborates with 24 international and 33 domestic external warehouses.

Georgia-Pacific's Packaging business is a leading provider of paperboard materials converted into various products worldwide, including boxes, paper plates, and cups. The Cellulose business, on the other hand, is a prominent producer of fluff pulp used in items like diapers and incontinence products, as well as market pulp utilized in paper manufacturing.

Pat Boushka, Executive Vice President of Georgia-Pacific's Packaging & Cellulose business, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership with Infor, citing their shared Principle-Based Management™ philosophy and long-term commitment to value creation. Boushka believes that the Infor solution will enable them to streamline systems, leveraging a unified core platform to deliver superior customer service on a global scale.

Renee Valgoi, Senior Vice President of Finance for the Georgia-Pacific Packaging & Cellulose business, pointed out the challenges they faced due to their aging set of applications and diverse processes across core businesses. Valgoi emphasized the importance of moving to a unified platform, aligning processes, and retiring more than 90 percent of their legacy applications. Infor's M3 ERP system, along with associated edge applications, will now serve as the central system covering order management, customer experience, supply chain, and accounting.

Georgia-Pacific's Packaging & Cellulose business anticipates several key benefits from the Infor solution:

Improved Business Processes: Integration and implementation of best practices for order management, customer service, supply chain, and accounting, along with support for centers of excellence.

Enhanced Decision-Making: A "single source of truth" for advanced analytics and improved decision-making.

Superior Customer Experience: Introduction of a new web-enabled partner portal, advanced sales, services, and marketing automation, and e-commerce capabilities for end-to-end order visibility and improved order fulfillment predictability.

Cost Savings and Flexibility: The adoption of a multi-tenant cloud environment, reducing hardware upgrade and maintenance costs, increasing operational flexibility and scalability, simplifying system complexity, and accelerating the adoption of new innovations.

Soma Somasundaram, Infor President & CTO, emphasized the significance of this milestone in their collaboration with the Georgia-Pacific Packaging & Cellulose team. He highlighted Infor's experience in large-scale deployments and deep expertise in the process manufacturing industry as crucial for delivering ongoing value through their cloud-based products, services, and support.

Valgoi mentioned that phase two of the project, focusing on Georgia-Pacific's Containerboard business, will mirror the size and scope of the initial phase, encompassing an additional five large, 24/7 operating mills and 70 warehouses.
