As part of its growth strategy, Huhtamaki will make a sizable investment to develop and expand its foodservice packaging manufacturing unit in Gosport, UK. The total investment for extending both manufacturing and warehouse areas is approximately GBP 7 million. The expansion next to existing facilities is expected to be completed by March 2017.
Demand growth for foodservice packaging in the UK has been strong over the past years, and Huhtamaki has kept pace with the development by investing in renewed machinery. State-of-the-art insulated paper cup forming machines and a major new PET tumbler manufacturing line with capabilities to process both regular and recycled PET have been installed into the Gosport unit earlier this year. The new manufacturing and warehouse area expansion will allow optimization of production layout as well as room for further growth. Combined with the earlier machinery investments it creates an unmatched capability to serve foodservice customers in the UK and Western Europe.
“We have built a strong track record and good relationships with our key customers in the growing UK food and drink packaging market over the past years. With this sizable expansion, we continue to invest to serve our customers better and to strengthen our position in this leading European foodservice and coffee-to-go market,” says Eric Le Lay, Executive Vice President, Foodservice Europe-Asia-Oceania.
