Japan-based flexible packaging and high-performance films producer Takigawa is planning to invest $46m to build a new manufacturing facility in Bardstown, US.

The new 180,000ft² facility, which will be the first for the company in the US, will be located on a greenfield site in Bardstown, Kentucky.

Takigawa president Hiroyuki Takigawa said: “After conducting a lengthy national site selection process, Takigawa is excited to have selected Bardstown, Kentucky as the home of our new US facility.”

Expected to create 180 full-time jobs, the project will primarily serve high-impact packaging for high-impact brands in the food and beverage industry.

The project has recently been preliminarily approved by the Kentucky Economic Development Finance Authority (KEDFA) for tax incentives up to $2m through the Kentucky Business Investment program.

Takigawa is engaged in extrusion of high-performance films for the packaging industry. It has operations in Vietnam, Canada, Europe and Singapore, as well as a sales office in Torrance, California.

Nelson County judge-executive dean Watts said Takigawa said: “Takigawa brings to Nelson County a diverse industry that will complement our current manufacturing portfolio.”

Takigawa will also have option to receive resources from the Kentucky Skills Network, an initiative launched to allow companies to receive no-cost recruitment and job placement services, reduced-cost customized training and job training incentives.
