Canon launches the corrPRESS iB17, a new digital printer for large-scale packaging
Canon has announced the new corrPRESS iB17 at the FEFCO Technical Seminar 2025 in Rome. This next-generation digital inkjet press is designed for high-volume corrugated packaging printing. It can print up to 8,000 m² per hour (15 million m² per year) with high, offset-like quality directly on corrugated boards up to 1.7 meters wide. Using water-based inks suitable for indirect food contact, it supports fast and cost-efficient short- to medium-run jobs with minimal operator involvement. The corrPRESS iB17 builds on Canon’s long experience in digital printing and delivers fast turnaround, excellent print quality, and strong efficiency. It supports runs up to 20,000 m², making digital printing viable for more production sizes. With automated cleaning and quality control, the machine reduces human effort and waste by printing only what is needed, without using plates or chemicals. The system uses high-resolution printheads (1200 dpi) and special water-based inks to produce vibrant colors, sharp text, and fine details on coated and uncoated boards. Its spot primer ensures strong ink adhesion, and printing happens immediately after priming for a stable and reliable process. Canon's advanced drying technology protects the board, saves energy, and supports a wide range of materials up to 8 mm thick. Canon developed all key parts of the system – printheads, inks, and drying – ensuring high performance and reliability. Peter Wolff, Chief Marketing Officer at Canon Production Printing, said the corrPRESS iB17 marks an important step in Canon’s move into the packaging market. He highlighted that the new press combines top-quality printing with high productivity and flexibility to help corrugated packaging manufacturers improve their operations and meet growing market demands.
