Summary:
Amcor has upgraded its healthcare packaging production capabilities at its Mundelein, Illinois facility with automated manufacturing lines and advanced vision inspection systems. The investment strengthens quality control, manufacturing traceability, and packaging reliability for healthcare customers while reducing the risk of seal failures and other packaging defects.

Amcor, a global leader in developing and producing responsible packaging solutions, has announced the installation of state-of-the-art automated manufacturing lines and vision inspection systems for healthcare bag production at its Mundelein, Ill. facility.

Amcor’s investment demonstrates significant advancements in packaging reliability and safety. Medical product recalls due to sterile barrier breach are commonly connected to packaging seal failures, pin holes and contamination. Amcor’s new state-of-the-art vision systems inspect 100 percent of the bags, including film-to-film and film-to-Tyvek® seals, delivering exceptional confidence in package quality. Production data is serialized to individual bags providing full manufacturing traceability.

As part of Amcor’s broad global healthcare packaging network, the Mundelein, Ill. facility delivers robust vertical integration with full control of its blown film, printing, laminating, slitting and converting processes, allowing for optimal service, efficiency and product consistency. Vertical integration, coupled with superior quality inspection, reduces risks and costly packaging failures for healthcare manufacturers.

“The investment in our Mundelein, Ill. facility underscores Amcor’s commitment to providing unmatched quality, service and supply chain security to our healthcare customers,” said Art Castro, vice president of Amcor Flexibles Healthcare in North America. “The installation of cutting-edge equipment reflects Amcor’s continued leadership in the healthcare industry.”
