Corrosion protection

Effective metal protection is effective value protection

Products with bare metal surfaces are always at risk of being damaged by rust. In operations such as storage and transport, these risks increase dramatically. High mechanical stresses, insufficient protection against moisture, but also significant climatic changes, as are common with exports, create ideal "breeding conditions" for rust and corrosion.Corrosion is the result of oxidation processes. Once they have started, they can hardly be stopped. The damage resulting from corrosion runs into the billions. The dangers for production companies and trading companies that manufacture or sell higher-quality products with bare metal surfaces are correspondingly great. But metal products can also be safely protected against corrosion during transport and storage - even under extreme conditions! We have decades of experience, have well-known partners with patents in this area and, in addition to expert advice, offer our customers three different corrosion protection methods: the VCI, the desiccant and the coating method.

EXCOR® VCI corrosion protection from the packaging

EXCOR® VCI are corrosion inhibitors that can be incorporated into packaging materials such as polyethylene, polypropylene, foam, paper, solid and corrugated cardboard or oil. The respective carrier material releases this VCI (Volatile Corrosion Inhibitor) in vapor form up to a saturation concentration in the closed packaging room. This creates an atmosphere within the packaging that specifically prevents any corrosion. The VCI method is one of the active forms of corrosion protection. The inhibitors dissolve completely and residue-free after removing the packaging. You can find more information at de.excor.com

Desiccant

So-called desiccants can protect the packaged goods from humidity during transport and storage and thus prevent corrosion, mold growth and the like. In conjunction with a water-vapor-tight cover, desiccants keep the humidity in a packaging below the critical concentration. Sufficient absorption capacity prevents corrosion.

Coating method

This is a passive corrosion protection method: The protective layer separates the metallic surfaces from aggressive media such as moisture, salts or acids. The coating method uses oils or film-forming to hardening coatings. As a rule, these coatings have to be removed again after receipt of the respective goods.
