Laser marking in the Home Appliance

Laser marking in the Home Appliance

Laser marking in the Home Appliance industry

The Home Appliance industry is characterized by a wide variety of products. They are composed of irregularly shaped parts with complex and large-sized geometries. For this reason, it is challenging to build versatile systems and develop the technologies needed to mark them.

Laser marking is mainly required in the White Goods and Cooking Industry. The main purpose is traceability or brand visibility. LASIT has dedicated 12 Research and Development projects to this sector, in collaboration with the major brands that had specific needs.

In 15 years, we have created solutions for:

  • High productivity
  • Colored marking
  • Black marking
  • Marking on non-linear geometries
  • Precision of complex drawings
  • Abrasion resistance
  • Resistance to chemicals used in cleaning

Advantages over pad printing

Savings:

Pad printing paints are a major consumable and waste materials must be disposed of. For a high productivity chain, this means very high costs. A UV laser: with its 25,000 hours of operation without maintenance prevents this problem.

Ecology:

Laser is the best technological choice from the point of view of environmental safety. Zero waste materials means less chemical and dangerous substances in the environment. The laser is a DPM (Direct Part Marking) technology, so we do not add additional paper or plastic components to our product

Custom Software:

Laser marking lets you manage the dynamism of data via software. It automatically generates serial numbers and sequences as well as the utmost flexibility in changing graphics.

Resistance:

Prints and labels become damaged and codes and text no longer are visible. In terms of productivity and company image this is a problem. Laser marking instead remains completely indelible over time.

Picosecond Laser Marker

The aesthetic result of marking is fundamental, particularly for cooking applications, requiring the use of a laser that gives high-contrast black. The Picosecond laser, a fiber laser with very short pulses, is best suited for this purpose, providing an impalpable, annealing-type effect.

LASIT was among the first companies to experiment with this technology. Indeed, the Picosecond laser has been in our laser test laboratory for some time. We perform accurate testing for each innovation and potential applications. Through careful analysis and parameter correction, we have identified the advantages of this laser marker for laser marking household appliances.

The most significant advantages in terms of application and result are:

  • Impalpable black marking
  • High contrast
  • It is 3 times faster than a traditional fiber laser
  • Exceptional finishing

The ultra-short pulse duration allows picosecond laser to mark materials that infrared nanosecond lasers can’t, e.g., micromachining of glass.

It’s almost cold ablation also makes it suitable for a wide range of materials and applications, virtually eliminating heat transmission on components.
