Project Overview

Gerresheimer has commenced construction of a new ready-to-fill (RTF/RTU) vial production facility at its Wertheim, Germany site with an investment of €30 million. The expansion will strengthen the company’s pharmaceutical packaging capabilities through the introduction of the EZ-fill Smart packaging platform, supporting the growing demand for high-quality ready-to-fill vials used in sensitive biopharmaceutical applications.

Project Description

Introduction:

Gerresheimer, a global partner and solutions provider for the pharma, biotech, and cosmetics industries, has officially begun construction of a new production facility at its Wertheim site in Germany with a groundbreaking ceremony.

Features:

The facility, featuring a 4,000 m² production hall within the EZ-fill Smart packaging platform, is expected to start producing high-quality ready-to-fill (RTF/RTU) vials by mid-2027. Currently, around 160 employees at Wertheim manufacture injection vials and ampoules.

The expansion is set to create approximately 50 skilled positions in the region. Wertheim will become the second Gerresheimer site, alongside Querétaro, Mexico, to offer RTF vials using the EZ-fill Smart platform.

EZ-fill Smart is a next-generation packaging solution for ready-to-fill vials. Combined with Gx Elite RTF Vials, it provides excellent product quality and maximum protection for sensitive biopharmaceuticals.

The first phase of the expansion is expected to generate these new positions by 2028.
