Mauser Group joins Plastienvases for producing intermediate bulk containers Industrial packing manufacturer Mauser Group has started operating an intermediate bulk container-producing joint venture with Mexican company Plastienvases SA de CV. Called Mauser Plastienvases International (MPI), the new company makes 275-gallon polyethylene drums, together with a variety of valves and closure systems, for the Mexican industrial liquids and ingredients market at a plant in Toluca, 40 miles west of Mexico City. In a news release announcing the deal, Mauser, of Bruehl, near Cologne in Germany, made no mention of each company's share in MPI. Spokespersons for both Mauser and Plastienvases, of Mexico City, did not immediately reply to requests for such information. "Global companies continue to expand their filling operations here in Mexico and local Mexican companies are also growing. So the creation of this joint venture, MPI, makes sense," said Alexis Riedel, MPI's general manager, in the bulletin. Jeff Simmonds, president and CEO of Mauser North America, said the company's decision to form the joint venture with Plastienvases was an easy one to make. "Our experience with Plastienvases as a Mauser licensee for plastic drums has demonstrated our ability to work together well as a team, which will be critical as we enter the IBC market in Mexico." Mauser employs 4,000 in Europe, the Americas and Asia and has annual revenues of about $1.3 billion. It has customers in the chemical, agrochemical, petrochemical, and pharmaceutical sectors as well as in the food and beverage industries. In addition to IBCs, its products include plastic packaging, fiber drums and steel drums. Plastienvases was founded in the industrial municipality of Naucalpan, close to Mexico City, in 1975. It produces containers ranging in size from one to 220 liters
