Mondi Launches Extended Corrugated and Solid Board Portfolio for the Food Packaging Industry

19 November 2025

Mondi, a global leader in sustainable packaging and paper, has announced the launch of an expanded food packaging portfolio, marking a significant step forward in its value proposition to the European and global food packaging sector. This announcement, released on November 18, 2025, emphasizes Mondi’s ongoing commitment to meeting the advanced requirements of food industry customers—including efficiency, shelf visibility, sustainability, compliance with EU directives, and enhanced branding opportunities. The portfolio launch incorporates comprehensive solutions across corrugated and solid board packaging, as well as expanded digital printing capabilities.

The expansion follows Mondi’s acquisition of Schumacher Packaging, a key development that has strengthened Mondi’s network of production sites and improved its regional supply reliability throughout Europe. The move has allowed Mondi to offer one of the most diverse and comprehensive selections of food packaging solutions on the market. By combining corrugated, solid board, and flexible packaging under a single offering, Mondi positions itself as a full-service partner to the food sector, able to address product-specific needs for fresh produce, meat, poultry, dairy, beverages, frozen food, snacks, and confectionery.

Among the innovations introduced, Mondi’s lightweighting initiatives and focus on smaller portion packaging address emerging trends in material optimization and consumer convenience. Its range of Retail Ready Packaging (RRP) and point-of-sale display solutions have been recognized for improving brand recognition, ensuring efficient replenishment processes, and enhancing shelf appeal for both retailers and manufacturers. These solutions, together with next-generation digital, flexo, and offset printing—including the latest six-color digital printing with white ink—demonstrate Mondi’s technological leadership and its ability to serve the growing demand for stand-out, sustainable packaging across a range of food applications.

Sustainability remains at the core of the new portfolio, with all products designed to meet or exceed the latest circularity requirements and eco-design expectations under the EU’s Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR). The portfolio is developed to ensure that all packaging is either 100% renewable or recyclable, a necessity for private-label and branded food products aiming to align with increasing regulatory and societal pressure for reduced environmental impact. Accredited Food Safety and Performance Labs support the broad portfolio, allowing Mondi to provide robust, customized solutions that offer safety assurance and performance validation.

Through the acquisition of Schumacher Packaging, Mondi’s supply chain resilience and flexibility have been significantly enhanced. Regional customers now benefit from shorter lead times, improved logistical efficiency, and a broader network of local production sites. Mondi also operates ThinkBox innovation hubs, collaboration spaces where technical experts and clients jointly develop packaging solutions, optimize designs, and improve packaging process efficiency.

The portfolio’s impact on the food packaging industry is expected to be far-reaching. With sector coverage including fresh produce (ventilated trays and stackable transport solutions), meat and seafood (leak-proof and high-strength boxes), dairy (ventilated multipacks for refrigeration), and beverages (eco-friendly multipacks and bulk transport boxes), Mondi’s solutions deliver on both operational and brand-driven imperatives. The launch also includes dedicated packaging for frozen foods—solid board boxes with advanced print quality for visibility and cold chain reliability—as well as a range of shelf-ready and eCommerce solutions targeting the rapidly expanding online grocery segment.

Mondi’s overarching strategy, as articulated by Paulus Goëss, Chief Operating Officer Corrugated Solutions, is to empower the food industry with packaging that is not only efficient and market-ready but aligned with evolving regulatory standards and the highest sustainability benchmarks. With headquarters in London, operations in more than 30 countries, and a workforce of over 24,000 employees, Mondi's latest expansion signals its intent to shape the future of food packaging in Europe and internationally, offering both innovation and operational excellence for food industry stakeholders.
