Adding science to the process with the Web academy
8 August 2024
Learning more about materials, processes, and production techniques allows us to achieve better results and be more sustainable“, explains Miguel Avellaneda from Giesecke + Devrient Mobile ePayments Iberia S. A. why he and his colleagues are joining the Fogra Web Academy for several years now. For this reason, the Fogra Web Academy was established in 2020. Over the last four years, about 570 persons participated in the online training. More than 300 Fogra Web Academy participants have also demonstrated their knowledge and received a "Fogra Academy Graduate" certificate.
"It’s invaluable, up-to-date knowledge for all serious professionals who want to know more,” says Ubisoft's Axel Robert, who has taken part in the 30-course training course from the start. Transferring knowledge to practice is one of Fogra's major goals. Therefore, training beginners and experts with the knowledge gained from research has always been an important work of the Research Institute for Media Technologies. The online training breaks down the printing process into small, digestible chunks filled with the latest research results and practical insights. For example, a recently finished research project is the basis of the new course focussing on how to evaluate and communicate metallic effects in print. "Fogra Web Academy allows us to add science to production processes, stay up to date and advance from a global point of view,“ confirms Miguel Avellaneda.
The concept of the Fogra Web Academy is to give attendees a broad knowledge of the whole printing process and the opportunity to broaden their horizons. This is why the topics cover the full range from prepress and colour management to printing materials (e.g. ink, paper, foils) and printing procedures to post-press. The focus is on learning basics, backgrounds and practical tips. „Knowing new materials, methods, and regulations helps us to face the future. Standardising and finding a common language is a condition of success to achieve good communication with customers,“ points out Miguel Avellaneda. Applying the knowledge gained to the day-to-day work is one goal of the training.
The Fogra Web Academy is aimed at all companies and individuals in the printing business, such as printing houses, machine manufacturers and suppliers. All employees can benefit from a boost in knowledge and a better insight into the industry. For this reason, Fogra is offering a flat rate depending on the company's size. For the first time and with the new season starting in September,, Fogra also offers the opportunity for individuals to book a single participation.
