Premier introduces a revolutionary sustainable product to the market
15 November 2021
As world leaders in Scotland debate to identify ways to limit global warming at the United Nations Climate Change Conference, Premier Packaging is the first company to market for sale and the distribution of a revolutionary replacement for polyethylene products: paper packaging with all the advantages of plastic and 100% recyclable and compostable.
The technology, approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the patent-pending PaperLock ™ paper packaging technology, could help reduce carbon emissions by replacing plastic that derives from fossil fuels (oil, gas and coal). If the current trend continues, according to the World Economic Forum, 20% of oil consumption by 2050 will be attributable to plastics. In addition, a report drawn up in 2019 by the Center for International Environmental Law estimated that in the United States alone the equivalent of 12.5-13,
On the contrary, paper packaging with Paperlock ™ technology derives from a renewable source, vegetable fibers, and is easily recyclable. This type of packaging certified by the University of West Michigan is made entirely of paper and does not contain microplastics.
PaperLock ™ enables the processing of heat-sealable paper bags on current vertical forming, loading and sealing equipment and standard packaging equipment, avoiding costly upgrades, plastic liners, tapes or adhesives. With this technology, the paper is welded in the same way as polyethylene through the manufacturing process and can be printed in up to 10 colors with flexographic and / or digital printing.
Almost anything that is shipped using plastic today can be shipped in PaperLock ™ sealed paper, including fruit and vegetables, clothing, frozen food, flowers, hardware and more.
"Paperlock ™ technology and heat-sealable paper packaging will set a new world standard for packaging sustainability and recyclability," said John Gaynor, president and owner of Premier Packaging, a Louisville-based company. "Thanks to this technology, we can reduce the emissions of fossil fuels and coal associated with the production of plastics."
"Partnering with Premier will ensure that we have the manufacturing and distribution capabilities needed to meet the growing demand for environmentally friendly products from retailers and consumers," said Mark Resch, director of product development, The Paper People based in Wisconsin and who has developed the technology.
Founded in Louisville in 1994, Premier Packaging has grown to over 90 locations in the United States, Canada, Mexico and Brazil by providing customized packaging and shipping solutions for its customers.
