Sintavia develops its own niobium printing technology
1 December 2022
Sintavia, LLC, a designer and additive manufacturer of complex mechanical systems for the aerospace, defense and space industries, announced today that it has developed proprietary material parameters for Alloy C103, an alloy of niobium High performance highly suitable for rocket, aircraft and satellite propulsion applications. Difficult to print without extensive parameter development, the refractory metal was developed on an EOS GmbH M290 printer and represents the 29th proprietary material parameter that Sintavia has developed for its OEM customers in the aerospace, defensive and space.Among the mechanical properties of Sintavia C103 stand out the print density of 99.94% and an elongation in the Z direction of 32% after a standard cycle of stress relief. Complete performance data for Sintavia's C103 parameter set can be found on the company's website www.sintavia.com/materials-guide/ .
"Due to its very high melting point, niobium is widely recognized as an excellent material for space propulsion applications, specifically for reaction control thrusters and attitude control thrusters," said Pavlo Earle, Vice President of Engineering Technology at Sintavia. . "With this development, Sintavia can offer its customers in the space sector components with industry-leading mechanical properties. When combined with Sintavia's design and additive manufacturing capabilities, which are also best-in-class, our C103 parameters offer our customers a premium industrial solution that is highly reliable for applications that are used in extreme temperatures."
On the other hand, Earle added that Sintavia is currently developing its own standards for other refractory materials for the aerospace, defense and space industry.
