TIPA and Fresh-Lock® Closures Expand Commercial Availability of Certified Home Compostable Pouch Zippers to Europe and Asia-Pacific

TIPA, a global leader in sustainable and compostable packaging solutions, and Presto Products Co., a North American supplier of Fresh-Lock® press-to-close and slider closures for flexible packaging, announce the launch of new home compostable closures, which are now available for Europe and Asia-Pacific, (APAC), markets. The certified zippers are ideal for commercial pouch applications.

Designed to biodegrade under compost conditions, these closures provide additional sustainable options targeting waste reduction and ensure high-performing reclosability for product security and shelf life. They are ideal for use in a range of flexible pouch applications including dry food, nutraceuticals, vitamins, and apparel packaging.

These innovative zippers integrate Fresh-Lock® closure technology and utilize TIPA’s home compostable formulations. The solutions are available on reels and are designed for use on equipment for many types of form, fill, & seal style types.

The solution addresses a pressing challenge: the widespread use of multi-material structures in traditional reclosable pouches, which cannot be recycled.  Emerging compostable innovations, like the collaboration between these providers, offer a viable alternative by enabling all elements of packaging—including closures—to be home compostable.

Tipa 8035 is the first closure of this series being offered with the formulation.  An 11mm single-lock press-to-close zipper for light to medium pouch solutions and compatible with many legacy applications.  Combined with their certified home compostable films and laminates, the materials are optimized for compatibility and efficient processing.

The launch of the new zipper to the European and APAC markets comes on the heels of its recent launch in the United States. It marks a significant expansion of the companies’ portfolio in Europe and APAC, where demand for sustainable packaging solutions continues to grow.

“We’re committed to developing packaging solutions that make it easier for businesses and consumers to adopt truly sustainable alternatives to curb the global plastic waste crisis,” said Daphna Nissenbaum, CEO at TIPA. “This development exemplifies our mission to replace traditional plastics with materials that function effectively and decompose naturally at the end of their lifecycle, leaving no waste behind.”

"TIPA's expertise in compostable materials combined with Fresh-Lock’s position as a high-quality, reliable, innovator in sustainable reclosable solutions creates an unparalleled combination to expand compostable packaging in key markets that are eager for eco-friendly options," said Todd Meussling, Director of Business Development and Sustainability with the Fresh-Lock team.
