Introduction:
International Paper has announced plans to invest $225 million in a new sustainable packaging plant in Rankin Conuty, Mississippi, as part of its strategy to strengthen operations and support long-term growth.
Features:
International Paper has revealed plans to construct a 468,000-square-foot sustainable packaging plant in Rankin Conuty, Mississippi. The investment highlights the company’s focus on strategic growth, operational efficiency, customer excellence, and long-term value creation.
The new plant is intended to enhance International Paper’s cost efficiency, improve reliability and product quality, and strengthen service capabilities across the Mid-South region. By replacing older infrastructure with a modern and highly efficient plant, the investment is expected to lower structural costs and support expansion in key market segments.
“This investment supports our strategy to optimise our box plant system and direct capital where it generates the highest returns,” said Keith Townsend, Group Vice President and General Manager, IP North America Packaging Solutions East. “By modernising our footprint in Mississippi, we are enhancing our service model and our ability to deliver high-quality sustainable packaging solutions.”
Construction is scheduled to begin in June 2026, with operations expected to commence in the fourth quarter of 2027. Employees from the existing Richland plant will transition to the new plant upon completion.
