SONE Products has announced it is to introduce injection blow moulding to its growing range of services, investing a further £700K at its County Durham facility. As the UK’s only high volume supplier to specialise in both the design and manufacture of a range of plastic containers incorporating innovative application and dispensing solutions, this latest investment is to be used for the purchase of two Novapax NSB 650/110 IBM machines. Moulds, infrastructure changes and the recruitment of an experienced specialist process engineer also form part of the investment programme. According to manufacturing manager, David Clemes, SONE opted for Novapax machinery because of the supplier’s demonstrable experience and the reliability of its equipment within the colour cosmetics sector. Novapax’s established partnerships with recognised tool makers and the logistical benefit of after sales and technical support from Germany, were all important aspects in the manufacturer’s choice. He said: “Introducing IBM complements our existing EBM capabilities, greatly enhancing what we can offer our growing client base. With both EBM and IBM we can provide more flexibility and satisfy differing demands of our existing and new clients. Clemes continued: “Further to the purchase of the equipment, a major part of the investment and of equal importance, will be in the implementation of a complete training package to bring existing technicians fully up to speed with the technology and new machines. This accords customers the peace of mind they have come to expect when working with SONE, that only fully trained staff will work on their behalf to produce products of the highest quality.” Earlier this year SONE achieved Cogent’s Gold Standard in recognition for its commitment to ensuring its workforce possesses the right set of industry skills to compete in a global market. Other leading organisations who hold the Gold Standard include paint and coatings company Akzo Nobel, chemical company BASF, British Sugar and Fuji Film. Typical examples of the types of product manufactured by SONE are mascaras, eyeliners and lip-gloss packs for the cosmetics industry. Each unit is produced using plastic injection, extrusion blow moulding and coming soon the injection blow moulded processes. SONE manufactures the main components, applies decoration and branding in-line and completes the process by assembling the applicators ready for distribution worldwide.
