Food Matters Live 2019: changing the future with packaging innovation

16 November 2019

There are just days to go before Food Matters Live 2019 opens its doors on 19 and 20 November at ExCeL London, and it is an unmissable opportunity for packaging and labelling professionals.

The UK’s largest cross-sector food and drink event is putting the packaging sector centre stage, with an ambitious educational programme looking at the future of the industry.

The two-day event also hosts live demonstrations and attractions focusing on retail trends, innovative ingredients, and unique networking and business opportunities with buyers and NPD specialists.

Packaging futures
With an inspirational seminar stream dedicated to packaging and labelling, the ambitious Food Matters Live 2019 educational programme gathers together global innovators, industry insiders and design gurus to focus on the future of the industry.

With single-use plastics and plastic waste making headlines around the world this year's seminar stream will focus on how the industry is working together to create a sustainable packaging system. Through inspiring case studies and challenging debates, the sessions will look at who is pioneering change with new eco-friendly materials and innovative technologies and take a look at how governments and companies alike can galvanise genuine action for change.

And in helping brands to stay on top of the ever-changing pace of innovation, expert speakers will provide valuable insights and new perspectives on the latest trends disrupting packaging design.

The eCommerce opportunity
A particularly relevant session for packaging professionals is the new business opportunities created by the e-grocery boom. This session explores how packaging designers are reinventing the box to drive change, innovation and engagement.

Chaired by Chris Griffin, CEO of the Museum of Brands, this session explores how the growing trend for e-commerce is affecting packaging design. When consumers shop online, the packaging is central to the overall product experience. Unboxing is one of these key moments of truth and offers brands a significant opportunity to enhance the customer experience by improving the way the package looks and performs.

Speakers including Adam Harris (head of proposition projects and Ddelivery, Gousto) and Aoife Chew (associate Ddirector, The Big Picture Agency) will address the specific challenges and opportunities this presents for food and drink companies and will explore how brands are responding to consumer demands for innovative stand-out pack design that simultaneously meets the sustainability agenda.

Other seminar sessions focusing on the packaging sector include:

  • Accelerating change: next-generation materials and planet-friendly packaging solutions
  • Everyday sustainability: shifting consumer awareness to genuine action for change
  • Innovations in sustainable packaging
  • What are the latest consumer trends driving innovation in packaging design?
  • The future is connected: how is connected experience design disrupting the packaging industry?
  • Packaging as propaganda: harnessing trends in consumer values
