Cups are one of the most traditional types of packaging on the market, both for dairy products as well as for food in general – thanks to the protection they provide for numerous types of food. In addition to yogurt, they’re most suitable for food that requires extra protection against denting. This packaging is popular, and for good reason:
While small, individual portions dominated the market in years past, today’s cups are becoming larger again and have a higher capacity inside, because consumers want to buy larger portions and divide them up into the amount they prefer at home.
A frequently used product like cups plays a big role when it comes to sustainability – and we’re responding by pursuing various approaches with our cups: We’re taking steps to prepare for future approvals for recycled materials such as r-PET and r-PO. Moreover bio- or agro-based materials can be used for the production of the cups. Also, we are making efforts to reduce the amount of material used in and of itself. When it comes to wall thicknesses, we’ve already made great progress. But we think the best way to reduce the amount of plastic used in cups is cardboard-plastic combinations called K3® packaging. And, of course, we’re also working on sustainable lid solutions that complement our cups perfectly.
