How to choose Strap and Equipment

When to use Steel Strapping

• Extreme pallet weights (4000# or more)
• Your product has sharp edges. These edges will cause plastic strap to bust (Safety Concern)
• Non-compressible loads, such as anything steel or metal

When to use Polyester Strapping

• Up to 3000# pallet weight
• Non-compressible or moderate settling loads
• When polypropylene fails to do the job, i.e., load shifting, straps breaking, etc.

When to use Polypropylene Strapping

• Up to 2000# pallet weight
• Moderate settling loads
• Light weight bundling (UPS/FEDEX packages)
• All forms of package reinforcement
• Most palletizing and unitizing of corrugated boxes

Plastic vs. Steel Strapping: Pros & Cons

Polyester strapping is becoming the most popular way to strap products. Plastic strap is safer than steel and has many advantages that are superior to steel. Lumber, brick, and block manufacturers and other heavy loads are converting to plastic strap.Listed below are a few of the advantages of plastic vs steel strap.

• Safety - Poly strap will help avoid many of the injuries related to steel strap. Fewer injuries to the eyes and hands of the workers applying the strap. This also will cut down on injuries for the end user/your customers when removing the strap.
• Cost - Plastic strap is significantly less expensive than steel strap. Savings can be realized up to 40% or more. The weight per coil is approximately 40% less, allowing additional savings on freight.
• Load Integrity - Plastic strap will stretch to conform to your loads. Plastic will cause less damage to your product and has a superior grip to hold your product. It will also retain tension and avoid problems with strapping not staying tight through transit.
• Rust - Plastic strap will not rust in the elements as steel strap will. Air and moisture can quickly rust steel banding.
• Strength - Plastic strap is similar in break strength to steel strap and will also resist shock better than steel strap.

AAR stands for the American Association of Railroads. Only products approved by the American Associated of Railroads may be labeled as "AAR Approved".The "AAR Approved" strapping sold by Kyana has been tested and approved by the American Association of Railroads.This strapping is made using the highest grade materials available to ensure the strap meets all of the rigid specifications required by the American Association of Railroads.These straps are printed with an AAR approval number to designate the high quality of the strap.
