Introduction:
SIG has announced plans to expand its Querétaro plant as part of its growth strategy in Mexico and North America. The project includes the addition of new production lines and the integration of key processes to strengthen operational capacity in the region.
Features:
The expansion is expected to double the plant’s production capacity from 1.5 billion to 3 billion packs per year, enabling the company to meet increasing demand across Mexico and North America.
The project will also support SIG’s nearshoring strategy by shifting certain production processes from Europe to Mexico. This will help reduce delivery times and improve flexibility in serving customers, including major food and beverage companies in Mexico and the United States.
At present, around 70% of the plant’s output serves the domestic market, while the remaining 30% is exported to the United States and Canada, reinforcing Querétaro’s role as a key manufacturing hub in North America.
The facility currently employs 254 people, and the expansion is expected to create about 40 additional direct jobs, contributing to regional economic growth.
The project will be implemented in phases, with new finishing technologies introduced from 2026, followed by the installation of a new printing line in 2027. The second phase is scheduled for completion by the end of 2028.
