Woodway not only supply all types of packaging and packaging systems but also offer a consultancy service to evaluate the packaging process and, where applicable, redesign packaging to improve protection, reduce environmental impact, provide efficiencies in cost and labour or improve brand presence.
Woodway was founded in 1978 in Northampton by Norman and Liz Inwood and established as Woodway Packaging in 1981. Run today by their son, Jason Inwood, Woodway UK boasts one of the most extensive stock and bespoke packaging ranges in the UK.
Since Woodway started, the market place has changed enormously and today customers have an eye on the materials that they are using, how much packaging they are using and how it can be disposed of. Woodway now concentrate on key areas of packaging for their customers – brand presence, environmental impact, process efficiencies and protection of products.
Over the years Woodway have had to adapt to an ever changing market. Woodway recognised the increase in ‘just in time’ demands from customers and in 2009 invested in a carton manufacturing facility to be able to supply small runs quickly. In 2010 they invested in their first Kasemake CAD machine to enable the Technical Services team to produce samples in a quicker turn-a-round time. Since then Woodway have bought a second cad machine, a large format printer and most recently invested in drop testing equipment to enable the team to create printed samples and check their suitability before production.
In 2012 Woodway won Runner-up for Northamptonshire Business of the Year (under 50 employees) and were shortlisted for the Environment Award. In 2013 we were Highly Commended for Business of the Year and were shortlisted for Creative Innovation Award. In 2014 we were shortlisted for Long-standing Business of the Year and also Finalists in the Growth Accelerator Awards for Innovation 2014. In 2015 Woodway were recognised by the London Stock Exchange group as one of the ‘1000 Companies That Inspire Britain’ and in 2016 as one of the ‘1000 Companies That Inspire Europe'. Also in 2016, Woodway won SME Packaging Company of the Year at the UK Packaging Awards and Northampton Business of the Year at the SME Northampton Business Awards.
This year they have been named by Financial Times in the FT 1000 Europe’s Fastest Growing Companies 2017.
As part of the expansion, in 2014 Woodway acquired a dedicated Warehouse for their dotcom customers and opened a Packaging Innovation Centre where customers can try out the latest systems. The Centre is also the venue for the in-house training course PackAcademy, which was launched in 2015.
