Amcor collaborates with DCM to launch recycle-ready fertiliser packaging, supporting EU circular economy goals

Amcor, a global leader in responsible packaging solutions, has partnered with Belgium-based De Ceuster Meststoffen NV (DCM) to launch a recycle-ready, mono-material polyethylene (PE) film for its fertiliser portfolio in Europe. The new solution replaces DCM’s earlier multi-material packaging structure, which was not designed for recycling within existing recycling streams.

The new packaging also includes 35% post-consumer recycled (PCR) content and is available in sizes ranging from 650 grams to 7 kilograms. This offers a high-performance, recycle-ready packaging option while supporting DCM’s wider sustainability strategy. Life cycle assessment data shows that switching to film with 35% PCR content can reduce the carbon footprint by 17%, supporting the brand’s carbon reduction targets and circular economy goals.

Along with its environmental advantages, the film is designed using machine-direction oriented polyethylene (MDO PE) combined with a functional sealant layer. The MDO structure provides reliable protection against gas and moisture while maintaining high tensile strength and resistance to tearing or puncturing. The pack’s secure seal helps reduce outer-layer deformation, and the film’s rigidity allows smaller packs to remain upright on shelves. A high-gloss finish also improves brand visibility and consumer appeal at the point of sale.

“Sustainability has been one of the core pillars of DCM’s corporate philosophy since the company was founded in 1976,” said Sofie Peeters, communication manager at DCM. “This latest packaging development represents another step in delivering high-quality fertiliser products while progressing our environmental goals.”

“The combination of recycle-ready, mono-material construction with post-consumer recycled content highlights Amcor’s commitment to circular packaging solutions,” said Neal Geryl, sales director at Amcor. “This solution helps brands advance their sustainability objectives while maintaining product protection and shelf appeal, and supports customers across Europe in preparing for upcoming Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation requirements.”
