Maxipos was originally the brainchild of two university friends, both with a burning ambition to start their own business together. After finishing their degrees at Oxford University, one joined L’Oréal, the world’s largest beauty company, as a management trainee specialising in marketing. The other joined his sister’s fledging internet business, soon to be one of the main players in the dotcom boom. Both learnt an immense amount in a short period of time, often being thrown in at the deep end by their employers, expected to not just float but to succeed. Despite working 12 hour days, the friends would meet up most nights to discuss what business they might one day create. After 18 months, the concept of Maxipos had been agreed and then developed, and the friends spent the next 6 months fine-tuning a business plan and raising private finance. One Sunday evening in September 2000, they agreed they would hand in their notices the following morning to begin their adventure; in January 2001, Maxipos was launched in London.
Despite being confident the business model would work, the friends were surprised how quickly they secured several high-profile clients, such as L’Oréal and French Connection. From there, Maxipos developed into one of the market’s leading suppliers of branded merchandise and packaging products, helping many more clients bring their marketing ideas to life.
In 2008, one of the friends left the business to go back to his primary love of technology and the internet. The remaining founder, Stephen Gibbons, continued to run Maxipos and relocated the business to Oxford, building a team of passionate, diligent and conscientious project managers. Most of the team Stephen has assembled have worked client side, which we feel sets us apart from most suppliers in the market. We fully understand our client’s needs and what is important to them as in our previous working lives we experienced this firsthand. This knowledge forms the foundation of Maxipos, which is providing the very best service we can for our clients.
